Clockmakers, like Thomas Earnshaw, the often heralded “father of the modern chronometer,” were celebrated for their genius in helping to navigate the world’s oceans. Thomas Earnshaw and his famed chronometers were rewarded and recognized by the Board of Longitude in 1805 for their work in helping to open up the seas to safe and accurate passage around the world.
The LONGITUDE timepiece from Earnshaw is a fitting tribute to the ingenuity, intelligence, and grace in design of the works from Earnshaw. A large classically formed case opens up to exhibit a complex yet clear vision of timekeeping mastery.
